Lymphatic Massage

General Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) uses special techniques to encourage the drainage of fluid (Lymph) within the lymphatic system. These techniques are particularly useful for relaxation and stress release, to clear waste and fluid from the system, and for fluid retention, swelling (oedema) and cellulite. MLD uses very gentle massage movements without the use of a medium, such as oil. Typically, each treatment session is short but will involve multiple treatments. The additional benefit of MLD is that it is also relaxing!

There is some debate about whether MLD and other massage techniques increase risk, where the client has an existing condition, such as cancer or a virus mediated infection. I always encourage clients to consult their doctor first if they are already receiving treatment for cancer. Where systemic infection is present, it is sensible to delay the massage treatment until the infection has passed. Those clients with lymphadoema should seek a qualified MLD practitioner in the Vodder, Földi, Leduc or Casley-Smith methods.
